How to get the best adhesive seal

Key points

  • Many change their adhesive twice a day; when getting up in the morning and before going to bed.
  • For the day start by removing your night-time adhesive, then clean and prepare the skin before applying a new one.
  • For the night, start by removing your daytime adhesive, then clean and dry the skin before applying a new one. Do not use a skin barrier with Provox Life Night.

Introduction

If you are wearing an adhesive it is important to have a good change routine. We’ll show you how to achieve the best possible seal for the day and the most comfortable solution for the night, in the simplest way.

Are you following all the steps?

For those who use adhesives, you will rarely have to think about how you change them – it just becomes a habit once you have become used to them

There is a way to simplify the whole process and improve your seal whilst minimising the risk of skin irritation. Have a look at these four quick and easy steps.

In the morning

STEP 1: Remove your night-time adhesive

  • WHY? Always start your morning with a brand new adhesive to ensure it is sticky enough to last for the day
  • HOW? First, moisten the Provox Life Night with water, then gently pull away the loose adhesive. If using any other adhesive during the night, you may use the Provox Adhesive Remover to loosen it.

STEP 2: Clean your skin

  • WHY? This will avoid any irritation to the surrounding skin and helps to obtain a good seal with your adhesive.
  • HOW? Use the Provox Cleaning Towel to gently wipe the skin around your stoma and remove any oil or adhesive residue. Remember to let your skin dry afterwards.

STEP 3: Prepare your skin

  • WHY? Using the Provox Skin Barrier will add another protective layer to your skin and prevent any redness or possible irritation.
  • HOW? Apply the Provox Skin Barrier to the clean, dry skin around your stoma

STEP 4: Apply your daytime adhesive

  • WHY? Having the right daytime adhesive and applying it carefully is crucial to making sure you achieve a good seal that lasts for the day.
  • HOW? Centre the adhesive opening directly over your stoma and press the adhesive onto your skin. Start from your stoma in the middle, before moving out to the edges. Remember to massage it carefully onto your skin as well as into the creases and deeper parts of your stoma whenever possible. Allowing 30-60 minutes for the adhesive to set before you start speaking can further help seal the adhesive.

In the evening

STEP 1: Remove your daytime adhesive

  • WHY? Change to Provox Life Night to soothe your skin, sleep more comfortably and improve your lung health.
  • HOW? Gently remove your daytime adhesive by using the Provox Adhesive Remover.

STEP 2: Clean your skin

  • WHY? Clean your skin to help avoid skin irritation and obtain a good seal.
  • HOW? Use the Provox Cleaning Towel to gently wipe the skin around your stoma and remove any oil or adhesive residue.

STEP 3: Leave your skin to dry

  • WHY? It’s important to clean and dry the skin around your stoma as the adhesive won’t stick to wet skin.
  • HOW? You shouldn’t use products like soap, cream or skin barriers before applying Provox Life Night. They may leave an oily residue behind. Ensure you wait for your skin to dry completely to obtain a better seal.

STEP 4: Apply the Provox Life Night

  • WHY? This adhesive is made of hydrogel to soothe your skin and improve your lung health. It has a soft, smaller ring that means it is more comfortable to sleep with.
  • HOW? Apply the ring of the adhesive as closely as possible to your stoma. Massage the middle onto your skin and peel off the sides. Then massage the entire adhesive onto your neck. Allowing up to 30 minutes for Provox Life Night to set before you go to bed can further help seal the adhesive.

That’s it! You’re ready to go

By following these routines – both in the morning and before bed – chances are your adhesive will stay securely in place.
