Key points

  • The Provox Brush and Provox Flush should be used when you wake up, before you go to bed, and ideally after every meal in between.
  • Proper daily maintenance makes sure that your voice prosthesis stays clean, which may delay leakage and thereby extend the lifetime of your voice prosthesis.

Introduction

Look after your voice prosthesis by cleaning it every day. This may delay leakage through the voice prosthesis meaning your device gets a longer lifetime. Get to know the tools that will help you.

Maintenance matters

The rear side of your voice prosthesis is located in your food pipe where food, drinks and saliva are being swallowed all the time.

Your mouth, throat and food pipe contain bacteria and yeasts that will gradually stick on your voice prosthesis. Over time this will make your voice prosthesis leak. By cleaning it every day, you can slow down this process and extend the life of your prosthesis.

Taking care of your prosthesis

We recommend cleaning your voice prosthesis in the morning, in the evening and after every meal, using the Provox Brush and Provox Flush.

How to use the brush

  • Moisten the bristles of the Provox Brush and then insert all the way through the voice prosthesis
  • Move the brush back and forth while rotating the brush
  • Remember to replace the brush once a month or sooner if the bristles look worn and overused

How to use the flush

  • Squeeze the ball and fill up the ball with drinking water
  • Insert the tip into the voice prosthesis. Make sure it is sealed off properly
  • Gently squeeze the water into the prosthesis

If you do not feel comfortable using the flush with water, start by using the flush with air.
